I don’t know if aybody here remembers the finer points or not, but basically, a few months ago an indie game was set to be released onto the iPhone app store called Edge. This apparently irked “game developer” Tim Langdell who unfortunately owns the word Edge when it comes to video games. Don’t ask me how he was able to get such a stupid trademark, but he got it. As such he forced Mobigames to remove their game ever being released to the app store until they came to an agreement and Mobigames was permitted, after licensing the name, to relist their game as Edge by Mobigames (lame right?).
Fast forward to today and it appears Langdell has once again gone completely batshit douchebag on Mobigames again. Apparently whatever agreement Mobigames and Langdell had is no longer standing tall as Langdell issued a written letter to Apple who, in turn, wrote to Mobigames asking them to take down their game.
Here’s the full letter by Apple:
Dear David,
We received a written notice from Dr. Tim Langdell of Edge Games who believes your applications named “Edge by Mobigames” and “Edge Lite by Mobigames” infringe Edge Game’s rights.
Accordingly, please take steps to review your applications to ensure that they do not violate the rights of another party. If this includes removing your applications from the App Store while you make changes, use the following steps:
Visit iTunes Connect at http://itunesconnect.apple.com
1) Select the “Manage Your Apps” area
2) Find the desired application in the list
3) Select “Remove From Sale”
4) Your application will no longer be available for sale on the App StorePlease remember that pursuant to your agreement with Apple, you are responsible for any liability to Apple because of a claim that your applications infringe another party’s rights, and also that we may remove your applications if we believe that doing so is prudent or necessary. So that we don’t take unnecessary steps, such as removing your applications, please let us know that this matter between you and Mr. Langdell has been resolved within five days of this letter.
So whats the deal with this asshat? It was very public and very controversial when this happened the first time around so it’s not something he can just merely sweep under the rug. Perhaps now that EA is suing the crap out of him for his trademark bullying of the word he is attempting to muster up any sort of proof that he actually uses the word instead of just licensing it out.
Oh and all the while Langdell does this he persists that his company, Edge, is still making video games. Well let me clear one thing up, if — and that’s a big if — Langdell is making more videogames then he may as well just stop right now because I’ll be damned if I ever, EVER, allow anybody to purchase one from such a bottomfeeding ass clown.
Enjoy court Langdell. I hope it rips the trademark from you in the most violent and brutal way.
